1. Can I use a different type of cheese?
Absolutely! While cheddar provides a classic flavor, you can substitute it with mozzarella for a milder taste or provolone for a more traditional Philly cheesesteak experience.
2. Is there a way to speed up the preparation process?
To save time, consider using pre-cooked ground beef or leftovers. Additionally, chopping the onions and bell peppers ahead of time or using pre-chopped vegetables can significantly reduce prep time.
3. Can I prepare the dish ahead of time?
Yes, you can assemble the stuffed shells and refrigerate them (covered) for up to 24 hours before baking. This allows the flavors to meld and makes for a convenient meal on busy days.
4. What can I use if I can’t find jumbo pasta shells?
If jumbo shells are unavailable, manicotti tubes are a great alternative. Ensure they’re cooked al dente to prevent them from falling apart during stuffing.
5. How can I make the dish spicier?
To add heat, incorporate diced jalapeños or banana peppers into the meat mixture. You can also sprinkle red pepper flakes over the cheese sauce before baking.
