Ingredients

For the Wontons and Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
  • 14 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag frozen chicken wontons (mini chicken cilantro from Trader Joe’s or Costco work great!)
  • 1–2 cups chicken broth (adjust for desired soupiness)
  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1–2 tablespoons chili crisp

Toppings:

  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender and fragrant. Stir in the grated garlic during the last minute of cooking.
  2. Add the frozen wontons, chicken broth, and teriyaki sauce. Cover and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the wontons are heated through.
  3. Drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and stir in the chili crisp.
  4. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy!

  1. Do I need to thaw the wontons before cooking?
Nope! Just toss them straight into the broth frozen. They’ll cook through in about 5 minutes—super easy!
  2. Can I swap out the shiitake mushrooms for something else?
Absolutely! Cremini or button mushrooms work great if shiitakes aren’t available. You’ll still get that rich, umami flavor.
  3. What if I don’t have chili crisp?
No worries! You can use chili oil, red pepper flakes, or even sriracha for a similar spicy kick.
  4. How can I make this dish heartier?
Try adding veggies like bok choy or baby spinach for extra greens, or serve it over rice or noodles for a more filling meal.
  5. Can I make this ahead of time?
Yep! Just store the broth and wontons separately. When you’re ready to eat, heat everything up and top with fresh chili crisp and green onions.
