For Better Than a Boyfriend Brownies

  • Butter – I use softened butter for that rich, creamy texture that makes these brownies extra fudgy.
  • Granulated Sugar – This helps give the brownies their sweetness and contributes to the texture.
  • Brown Sugar – Adds moisture and a slight caramel flavor that deepens the taste.
  • Eggs – These provide structure and contribute to the chewy, rich texture of the brownies.
  • Vanilla Extract – For that warm, fragrant undertone that makes these brownies smell as good as they taste.
  • All-Purpose Flour – Gives the brownies structure, making them soft but not too cakey.
  • Cake Flour – This gives the brownies a lighter texture and makes them extra tender.
  • Cocoa Powder – The key ingredient for rich, chocolatey flavor.
  • Salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or Chunks – Adds pockets of gooey, melty chocolate throughout the brownies.

Optional:

  • Dulce de Leche – Swirl it in for extra creaminess and a deliciously sweet twist on the traditional brownie.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Optional:

  • 8-ounce jar of dulce de leche (microwave to warm it up, swirl 4 ounces into the batter, and top with the remaining after baking)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with both sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. Mix in the all-purpose flour, cake flour, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared 9x13-inch pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 28-36 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with just a few moist crumbs. Keep an eye on them, as baking times can vary.
  7. Optional: If you're adding dulce de leche, swirl it into the batter before baking and top the brownies with the remaining after they come out of the oven.

  1. Can I use margarine instead of butter?

Yes, you can! If you’re looking for a dairy-free option, margarine works just fine in this recipe. The brownies will still turn out rich and delicious.

  1. How can I make the brownies even fudgier?

Want that ultra-fudgy texture? Reduce the amount of flour slightly and add an extra egg yolk to the batter. This will make the brownies even more moist and dense.

  1. What if I don’t have cake flour?

No worries! If you don’t have cake flour, simply use regular all-purpose flour. For a lighter texture, you can sift the flour before adding it to the mix.

  1. Can I freeze these brownies?

Absolutely! These brownies freeze really well. Just let them cool completely, then wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil. Freeze for up to three months and enjoy whenever you need a chocolate fix.

  1. Can I add nuts to the brownies?

Yes, you can! If you love a little crunch, fold in some chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter before baking. It’ll add a nice texture contrast to the rich fudgy brownies.
